"Austin D. Fitch, 89, County Pioneer Dies At Frankfort Home "
"Funeral services for Austin Daniel Fitch, 89, pioneer county resident, who died at his home in Frankfort September 7, 1959, were held Wednesday afternoon at the Frankfort Methodist church with the Rev. W.E. Van Patten conducting the services. Interment was in Frankfort cemetery. He had been in declining health the past year.
Born in Trinity Center, California November 19, 1869, he came with his father, sisters and brothers as a small child to Marshall county and located on a farm west of Frankfort.
He was married to Ada Curtis, December 19, 1894 and they would have been married 65 years in December. Six children were born to them and he was preceded in death by a son, Reamy.
A farmer until his retirement in 1946, he was always interested in improved farming methods and served as president of the Farmers Union and Farmers Co-operative association and his township board.
Endowed with a remarkable memory, he recalled stirring events of pioneer days of Marshall county and experienced the county's most tragic cyclone on May 30, 1879 at Irving and vicinity.
He is survived by his wife, Ada, of the home; three daughters, Mrs. Cornelia Turner, Topeka; Mrs. Marguerite Feldhausen, Plattsmouth, Neb.; and Mrs. Marie Culver, Madison; two sons, Albert Fitch, Wichita and Fred Fitch of Phoenix, Arona(sic); a sister, Mrs. Lottie Blossom, Stillwater, Oklahoma; a brother-in-law, Sam Myers, Home City; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews."
